Our Vision

Political science delves into the study of government, public policies and political behaviour. It is a social science which uses both humanistic perspectives and scientific methods to study, analyse and explain political phenomena. With the advent of globalization, there has been a concomitant rise in the interest taken by the people of the world in understanding the political systems of other countries. Hence, political scientists become valued and important as they provide the lens through which we can understand the global and domestic political phenomena. The knowledge of Political Science is essential and useful to both rulers and the ruled. The knowledge of state, its origin, nature and functions are of great significance to modern man. As Political Science is said to be a science of statesmanship and leadership, the administrators, political leaders and diplomats, who conduct the affairs of the state also require a sound knowledge of Political Science in order to perform their functions with efficiency. Besides, Political Science makes people vigilant citizens by making them conscious of their rights and duties and eternal vigilance is the price of liberty. There is a wide range of careers for the students of Political Science in government, non-government organizations, legal field, mass media etc.

Mission

The discipline of Political Science requires students to understand politics in all its nuances to probe power relationships which exist in human interaction and to examine the fundamental principles of democratic functioning that guide ideas and institutions. Members of faculty use innovative teaching methods to make learning experimental. This involves the use of debates, discussions and quizzes. Series of public lectures designed around the course are also used to provide extensive knowledge to the students. Project presentations on contemporary political themes involving original thinking and relevant research are an integral part of learning. The Department tries to inculcate among students a basic understanding of their rights and duties and encourages them to act as responsible citizens through the celebration of important days like Independence Day, Republic Day, National Constitution Day etc. The department aims at inculcating the student’s analytical perspectives and cultivating political values so as to boost democratic practices. The students are also encouraged to apply their knowledge of Political Science to serve society as a whole. The faculty members, as well as students, are motivated to undertake extension activities in order to create a free, just and humane society. The Department is a student-centric department of learning and it is recognized for its endeavour for excellence and holistic development of students, institutions and society at large. The alumni of the college have a good number of people from the Political Science Department who are well placed in the society and contribute a lot to the system. The Department has been very active in organizing seminars and symposia on issues of diverse interests. The participation of the faculty and the students on a regular basis in Debates and Discussions makes the Department dynamic and vibrant. The students are also involved in various other extracurricular activities such as dance, music, theatre, sports etc. Every year our college participate in the Youth Parliament Competition under the mentorship of our department and we have remarkable success in this regard.
