About The department
The department started its journey in 2002 for B.Sc.(Gen) Course with three elective subjects -Mathematics,Physics,Computer Science under the instruction of I.C. of North Bengal University on the basis of self-financing course w.e.f. 2002-2003 academic session to admit not more than twenty students. After successfully running of five academic year the secretary of Under Graduate Council of NBU directed to convert the course from self-financing to normal status of the Under Graduate Courses vide his letter no 116/UB-07(2) dated 11/05/07 resolved in meeting dated 27/04/07 w.e.f.2007-08 academic year.

Commencement of class
All the students of mathematics department are hereby informed that 1st semester (hons/gen), 3rd semester(hons/gen) and 3rd year (hons/gen) classes will be started on and from 05.02.2021 through online mode using google classroom, google meet, zoom meet, webex meet. All the students are asked to familiar with these apps.

Vision

Facilities of the Department
- The department has two classrooms and one computer lab.
- The Department of Mathematics has a computer lab to assist students with their homework or other course needs.
- The Department of Mathematics Library is available for students. The departmental library is equipped with mathematics textbooks as well as relevant extra books on every topic related to the syllabus offered by the university. The departmental library has about 50 books on various mathematical topics.
- The department has an LCD projector.
- A 'Math Club' is run by the students of the department, which organizes various events and helps maintain unity among the students.
- The department shows interest in LaTex (a software system for typesetting documents) and provides all facilities in the lab in this regard.
- Students of the department can learn and practice C programming language (in Linux) in the computer lab.
Department Rules
- As per the University norm 75% attendance in class is mandatory for appearing in the final examination.
- Students must return their borrowed items to the Departmental Library before collecting their admit cards for final exam from the office.
- Students have to participate in the various events such as student seminar, workshop, debates, movie screening, wall magazine publication etc. organised by the Department.
- Appearing in Class-Test, Pre-Test, Test Examination is mandatory.
- Students must inform the HoD in written in case of continuous absence in the class for more than seven consecutive days.
- Students must help to maintain a healthy academic atmosphere in the department and must not involve in ragging or harassing anybody.
- Students are requested not to litter and to keep the waste in the dustbins available in the campus.
- Students are requested to stitch off the lights and fans when leaving the department.
Highligths
- Department of Mathematics is setup with a well-furnished Computer Lab for C-Programming Language and to fulfil other ICT based requirement of the departmental students.
- Most of the faculty members hold PhD degrees.
- All the faculty members are deeply engaged with research publication and they have a good number of publications in different reputed journals.
- All the faculty members are technically sound and they provide a remarkable Digital Classroom environment for online and ICT based learning.
- Department allays give a special attention to nurturing the creativity of the students through associations and clubs like Math Club, E-Magazine, Wall-Magazine, Debate Club, Quiz-Contest, Reading Club etc.
- Department frequently arranges online examinations to improve the subjective knowledge and to increase the skill of CBT (Computer Based Test) Examination for different types of Competitive Examinations.
- Course Manual and Study Material for Students are provided both in online and offline modes.
- Nurturing the research potential of the students.

Welcome to the Department of Mathematics
The department started its journey in 2002 for B.Sc.(Gen) Course with three elective subjects -Mathematics,Physics,Computer Science under the instruction of I.C. of North Bengal University on the basis of self-financing course w.e.f. 2002-2003 academic session to admit not more than twenty students. After successfully running of five academic year the secretary of Under Graduate Council of NBU directed to convert the course from self-financing to normal status of the Under Graduate Courses vide his letter no 116/UB-07(2) dated 11/05/07 resolved in meeting dated 27/04/07 w.e.f.2007-08 academic year .
After that the Registrar of Gour Banga University informed vide his letter no. 254/UGB/R-09 dated 12.06.09 that University Council decided in its meeting dated 11.06.09 to grant affiliation for Mathematics (Hons) for introducing from 2009-10 session.
