Gour Mahavidyalaya, a rapidly growing institution, has consistently shown its commitment to maintaining excellent academic performance, fostering a learner-centric and effective teaching-learning process, ensuring transparency and credibility in student evaluation, and upholding high standards in academic administration. The college has also developed a comprehensive student mentoring and support system.
Since 1985, the College started a Research Committee, to build a research culture among faculty and students. Initiation of value-added and skill development courses, along with enhancement courses for improving student employability through the Career Counselling has been a key focus.
The college aims to institute a sustained quality system embedded with consistent and value-based planned actions. To create an empowering academic environment for the holistic development of students, the College IQAC and the Governing Body have continuously taken steps towards development and upgradation, with the motto of imparting education, discipline, dedication, and determination.
With the advent of NEP 2020, the college is planning to set up a new vision and mission. The goal is to reform policies and implement them through the future Institutional Plan as listed below:
Enhancing Enrolment and Diversifying Student Strength:
- Introduce new UG and PG courses based on student demand. Already two new proposal for PG courses have been send to Higher Education Department, West Bengal. Initiate more short-term certificate/add-on/value-added courses for students.
- Introduce gesture-based reading screens, Braille-enabled and audio systems in the library for physically challenged students.
Achieving Student Excellence:
- Encourage students to achieve learning outcomes and attributes through mentoring activities.
- Promote participation in various curricular and extra-curricular activities such as seminars, webinars, research projects, festivals, cultural programs, sports, academic events, and competitions.
- Involve students in social outreach activities under the stewardship of NSS and UBA to foster environmental consciousness and community service.
- Strengthen the learning and evaluation process in light of the introduction of NEP 2020, to develop among the students an orientation for research and enable them to strive towards obtaining an ‘Honours with Research’ degree after four years.
Promoting Student Progression:
- Encourage students to pursue higher studies through post-graduate programs.
- Organize career awareness programs through the Career Counselling.
- Motivating students to pursue sort-term courses under PMKVY.
- Motivate students to participate in curricular and extra-curricular activities for better attainment of Programme Outcomes and Course Outcomes.
- Strengthen the spirit and a culture for innovation to develop skills among students to prepare future entrepreneurs.
- Organize programs and seminars to motivate students towards self-employment.
- Initiate faculty and student exchange programs and strengthen the alumni association.
Improving Infrastructure and Allied Facilities:
- Apply for funding from Department of Higher Education, West Bengal for building Boy’s Toilet Block and Girl’s Toilet Block as well as classrooms on 3rd floor.
- Upgrade laboratories with the latest equipment and enrich the central library with textbooks, reference books, and competitive exam books.
- Upgrade more classrooms with ICT-enabled tools and upgradation of existing gym for students.
Achieving Faculty Excellence and Enhancing Research:
- Adopt strategies to improve the quality and quantity of research and publications by the faculty.
- Organize seminars, conferences, workshops, and symposiums at various levels to elevate academic standards.
- Promote research culture by providing more academic facilities and monetary support.

- Offer a friendly, efficient, and participative administrative environment.
- Strengthen the relationship between administration, staff, students, and parents.
- Expand e-governance and digitalization of academic and administrative works.

Curricular Aspects
- The curriculum includes POs, PSOs, and COs for constant evaluation.
- Offer more training programmes, Add-on courses related to employability, entrepreneurship, skill development, environmental studies, human values and ethics.
- Invite qualified and experienced resource persons/scholars for workshops, seminars and special lectures to enhance critical thinking among students.
- Conduct academic and administrative audits for betterment.
- Strengthen existing programs and submit proposals to the Higher Education Dept., Govt. of West Bengal for the introduction of new Major courses.
- Collaborate with academic institutions for effective curriculum execution.
- Introduce interdisciplinary and multidisciplinary study systems.
- Preserve and promote heritage through the college museum and archives.
- Continue to offer alternative career options and add-on/value-added courses.
- Obtain feedback on curriculum for effective communication to relevant committees.
Teaching, Learning, and Evaluation
- Enhance academic quality through a transparent admission and internal evaluation process.
- Seek approval from the Dept. of Higher Education, Govt. of West Bengal for the introduction new Major courses and post-graduate courses.
- Ensure student attendance regularity through individual attendance registers and e-attendance mechanisms.
- Conduct regular parent-teacher meetings for academic monitoring.
- Organize seminars, workshops, extension lectures, internships, experiential learning, and educational tours.
- Motivate students through prize distribution ceremonies and recognition of academic and extra-curricular achievements to continue the existing practice.
- Provide online access to more e-journals, periodicals, and better internet facilities in the library.
- Ensure intensive use of ICT and innovative teaching and learning resources.
Research, Consultancy, and Extension
- Strengthen the Research Committee to create an enabling environment for research not only for the Faculty but also to encourage a spirit of research among students.
- Support innovative activities by developing the innovation ecosystem within the institution.
- Encourage teachers and students to undertake research activities and publish in reputed journals.
- Provide seed money for college-based minor research projects.
- Recommend faculty and student applications for fellowships, scholarships, and internships.
- Organize workshops for faculty related to research methodology and academic writing.
Infrastructure and Learning Resources
- Continuously improve and maintain infrastructure and learning resources.
- Obtain grants for infrastructure development.
- Highlight practices for infrastructure provision and learning resources.
- Well-equipped computer laboratories and main library.
