About The department
The Department of History started its journey from the session 1985-86 to cater to the educational needs of the weaker sections of Malda district in particular and to other parts of the districts and North Bengal. Since then, it has come a long way in popularizing History both as a discipline and a career-building opportunity for students in and around Malda district and North Bengal.
The National Education Policy (NEP 2020), implemented in 2023 by the Higher Education Department and University of Gour Banga, envisions an education system rooted in Indian ethos that transforms India into a global knowledge superpower. Its mission is to create a multidisciplinary, flexible, and equitable higher education ecosystem that fosters critical thinking, research, and innovation.
