About The department
Affiliated with the University of Gour Banga, the department follows the curriculum prescribed by the University and provides a balanced combination of theoretical knowledge and practical exposure. The department started its academic journey with one Guest Lecturer and has gradually developed into a dynamic and progressive department. At present, the department is enriched with 02 (Two) dedicated State Aided College Teachers and has an intake capacity of 72 students.

The department is situated in Room No. 215 on the first floor of the main administrative building. It is well supported by a spacious playground, a modern gymnasium, and adequate sports equipment required for regular practical classes, fitness training, yoga practices, athletics, and various indoor and outdoor games.
The Department regularly organizes and participates in sports competitions, yoga programmes, seminars, workshops, educational tours, leadership camps, fitness awareness programmes, and recreational activities. These programmes help students develop discipline, leadership qualities, teamwork, sportsmanship, self-confidence, communication skills, and a healthy lifestyle.
Students of the department actively participate in district and state-level sports competitions and have achieved notable success in various sporting events, bringing pride and recognition to the institution. The department continuously encourages and supports talented students to excel in sports and aims to produce skilled sportspersons capable of representing the college at university, national, and international levels.
With dedicated teachers, enthusiastic students, and a learner-friendly academic environment, the Department of Physical Education continues to play a significant role in promoting sports culture, physical fitness, value-based education, and overall excellence within the institution.

Department Rules
The students of the Department of Physical Education of Gour Mahavidyalaya are expected to maintain discipline, punctuality, sportsmanship, and a healthy academic atmosphere within the department and the college campus. The department believes that discipline, regular practice, teamwork, and moral values are essential for the overall development of students. Therefore, all students must strictly follow the rules and regulations of the college and the department.
- Students must abide by all rules and regulations prescribed by the college and the Department of Physical Education.
- Regular attendance in both theory and practical classes is compulsory for all students.
- Minimum 50% attendance in theory classes and 85% attendance in practical classes must be maintained as per departmental norms and university guidelines.
- Students must report to practical classes and sports activities on time and in proper sports uniform and shoes.
- Participation in practical classes, yoga sessions, drills, fitness training, athletics, games, and sports activities is mandatory.
- Students must actively participate in departmental activities such as seminars, workshops, special lectures, educational tours, leadership camps, sports meets, fitness awareness programmes, and cultural programmes.
- Students are encouraged to participate in inter-college, university, district, state, and national-level sports competitions to enhance their skills and bring recognition to the institution.
- Internal assessment marks will be awarded on the basis of attendance, class performance, assignments, practical performance, discipline, and participation in departmental activities as per CBCS/NEP guidelines.
- Appearing in Class Tests, Internal Assessments, Practical Examinations, Pre-Test, and University Examinations is compulsory.
- Students must maintain discipline, honesty, respect, and sportsman spirit during classes, competitions, tours, camps, and all departmental activities.
- Loss or damage of sports equipment due to negligence must be compensated by the concerned student.
- Students should use the gymnasium and sports equipment only under the guidance and permission of teachers/instructors.
- Mobile phones must be kept in silent mode during classes, practical sessions, seminars, and departmental programmes.
- Students must obtain prior permission from the HoD or concerned teacher before leaving any class, practice session, camp, or departmental activity.
- Continuous absence from classes for more than three consecutive days must be informed to the HoD or concerned teachers with valid reasons.
- Students must maintain cleanliness and hygiene in classrooms, playgrounds, gymnasium, changing rooms, and college surroundings.
- Students should help in maintaining an eco-friendly and plastic-free campus environment.
- Lights, fans, and other electrical equipment should be switched off after completion of classes or activities.
- Students should maintain physical fitness, proper health habits, and personal hygiene as part of departmental discipline.
- Respect towards teachers, non-teaching staff, coaches, officials, and fellow students must always be maintained.
- Students must follow safety rules during practical classes, sports training, gymnasium workouts, and outdoor activities to avoid injuries.
- Smoking, consumption of alcohol, tobacco, drugs, or any harmful substances inside the campus or during departmental activities is strictly prohibited.
- Students should uphold the dignity, discipline, and reputation of the Department of Physical Education and the college through their behaviour and conduct.
- Every student is expected to develop qualities such as teamwork, leadership, cooperation, responsibility, self-confidence, and sportsmanship through active participation in departmental activities.
- The decision of the Head of the Department and college authority regarding academic and disciplinary matters will be final and binding on all students.
- Students have to abide by the rules and regulations imposed by the college.
- Students have to abide by the departmental rules and regulations.
- At least 50% attendance for general course are mandatory.
- At least 85% attendance in practical classes.
- As per new CBCS rule 20% marks will be internal, which is based on the class attendance and class room performance. So student are advised to follow the instruction provided by the HOD time to time.
- Students have to participate in departmental activities like special lecture, workshop, model exhibition, seminar and other cultural and academic activities.
- Appearing in Class Test, Pre-test and Test examination is mandatory.
- Students have to inform HoD or other teaches in case of continuous absence from the class more than three consecutive days.
- Students are requested to keep their classroom and college surrounding clean and make a habit to switch off the light and Fan after finishing the class.

Welcome to the Department of Physical Education of Gour Mahavidyalaya. We are glad to announce that Department of Physical Education is one of the mast successful departments of this college with three State Aided College Teacher. All the faculties are competent enough to teach the undergraduate students. We provide full fledged academic session full of theory and practical classes on regular basis.
Physical Education aims of the training of the body,mind and conduct of a student.To keep a healthy mind within a healthy body,a student needs regular physical exercise.The Physical Education programme is planned and provides instruction which provides participants with many benefits.
