About The department

The Department of Sanskrit started its journey with the college in 2013 and today it has morphed into one of the most sought after centres for students wanting to study Sanskrit Literature in the district. At present the Department has Six Teachers. It has one Smart Class Room, two normal for Sanskrit LanguageTeaching, one well furnished departmental office room etc. We are aware that most of our students come from the rural areas and we are committed to help them nurture their critical appreciation of literary and cultural issues and guide their intellectual journey.

Our Vision

We are aware that most of our students are first/ second generation learners from rural areas. Our vision is to provide them appropriate pedagogies available in Sanskrit Studies while nurture their reading, writing, speaking skills so that they can prepare themselves for the changing job market. We provide a friendly, nurturing and inclusive environment of teaching and learning. Our vision is to-

To equip them with necessary knowledge of Sanskrit Studies – with a focus on the various genres of poetry, fiction, drama etc - so that they can develop a love for reading and appreciating literature on their own.
To develop their soft skills- proper communication in Sanskrit which is fundamental in today’s job market.
To nurture their creativity crucial for literary studies through their participation in performance activities, essay competition, magazine publication etc.
To develop their research skills so that they can engage in research on their own.
To develop their critical thinking so that they can become conscious and responsible citizen of the country.
To make them socially aware and inculcate in them values of cooperation, sacrifice and fellow feeling with their fellow beings.

Our Mission

We help students build knowledge of the content and methods of literary studies. Our graduates are well prepared for professional and post-graduate study and for lifelong learning. As part of our roadmap for achieving our vision we provide the following best practices:

Interactive class through ppt and audio visual medium.
ICT enabled classes through Google Meet as part of hybrid-mode of teaching.
The Department of Sanskrit has a movie club called Cinebus and we screen various movies based on literary texts as well as movies by renowned directors from across the globe for developing critical appreciation of literary and cultural issues of the students.
We publish one wall magazine called Sahitya Bharati for nurturing their creativity.
The Gaudiya Sanskrit Parishad of the Department encourages the students to develop their acting ability.
We organize student seminar, student workshops, debates on contemporary issues, annual quiz competition, essay writing competition, occasional exhibition cum painting / photography competition etc to nurture their creative faculty and develop their communicative skills.
We organize special lectures annually by renowned academicians from across the country to make the students aware of the latest developments in the literary and intellectual fields. We have Critical Thinking Forum where we invite scholars to share their research so that our students can be aware of latest research fields and gain knowledge about research through interaction with the invited scholars.
There is a Seminar Library in the department and we offer internet and printing facility to the students at a minimum cost.
We invite our successful alumni to take classes that help them to remain connected to the department. As part of our inclusive approach we have Slow Learners/ Advanced Learners a well as mentoring facilities. Students can approach us through email or whatsApp.
We are developing an effective grievance redressal mechanism and we plan to be in touch with the parents throughout the year by creating a WhatsApp group of parents and teachers.

Department Rules

As per the University norm, 75% attendance in class is mandatory for appearing in the final examination.
Students must return their borrowed items to the Departmental Library before collecting their admit cards for final exam from the office.
Students have to participate in the various events such as student seminar, workshop, debates, movie screening, wall magazine publication etc. organised by the Department.
Appearing in Class-Test, Pre-Test, Test Examination is mandatory.
Students must inform the HoD in written in case of continuous absence in the class for more than seven consecutive days
Students must help to maintain a healthy academic atmosphere in the department and must not involve in ragging or harassing anybody.
Students are requested not to litter and to keep the waste in the dustbins available in the campus.
Students are requested to stitch off the lights and fans when leaving the department.

२०१३ ख्रीष्टाब्दे अस्मदीयः संस्कृतविभागः प्रतिष्ठितः गौडमहाविद्यालयैः। महाविद्यालयोऽयं मालदाजिलायां जनप्रियः प्राणकेन्द्रः बभूव चिकीर्षूणां संस्कृतशिक्षार्थिनाम् । साम्प्रतं षट् शिक्षकाः भवन्ति असम्दीये विभागे । सर्वे शिक्षकाः पश्चिमबङ्गसर्वकारद्वारा अनुमोदिताः। न केवलं अफलाइनमाध्यमेन संस्कृतपाठदानं प्रचलति, अपि तु अनलाइनमाध्यमेनापि संस्कृतपाठदानं प्रचलति । संस्कृतशिक्षणार्थं प्राचीनपरम्परामनुश्रित्य एकः विभागीयः पाठदानकक्षः वर्तते । तैः सह योगानुशासनविषयेऽपि योगाचारः प्रदत्तः अस्मद्भिः योगशिक्षकैः। संस्कृतभाषाशिक्षार्थं बहुविधाः छात्राः ग्रामतः आगताः। वेदे-व्याकरणे-साहित्ये च दर्शनशास्त्रे तेषां छात्राणां ज्ञानवर्धनाय बौद्धिकविकासाय वयं तु बद्धपरिकराः। वेदमन्त्रोच्चारणविषयेऽपि उदात्तानुदात्तादिस्वराणां ज्ञानं अस्मद्भिः प्रदीयते ।

सर्वोत्तमम् अनुशीलनम्
• दृश्यश्रव्यमाध्यमेन (अडिओ-भिज्युयालमाध्यमेन) छात्रानुद्दिश्य पाठदानं प्रचलति।
• छात्राणां कृते समालोचनाचक्र-शास्त्रीयवितर्कसभा-पत्रिकादयः अस्मद्भिः आयोजिताः ।
• प्रतिवर्षं शिक्षार्थीणां सार्विकविकासाय विश्वविख्यातगुरुभि आलोचनासभा आयोजिता मदीये संस्कृतविभागे।
• संस्कृतछात्राणां कृते Wi-Fi इति आन्तर्जालिकव्यवस्था विभागपक्षतः आयोजिता ।
• प्रतिमासं छात्राणां मूल्यायनपरीक्षा आयोजिता विभागपक्षतः ।
विभागस्य उन्नतये प्राक्तनछात्राणां मतमपि गृहीतम् । ते प्राक्तनछात्राऽपि आगच्छन्ति ज्ञानबर्धनाय ।
